What little girl doesn’t want a dollhouse? Years ago I made a fashion (Barbie-scale) dollhouse for my girls. They played with it constantly. Because we moved every couple of years and never knew how much space we might have, I designed something that folded on a piano hinge in the centre so it could be closed up for the night or for moving, opened flat against a wall, or opened just half way and placed in a corner. Made from materials salvaged from an old museum display case, it was somehow given away during that period between when the girls stopped playing with dolls and when they start having their own children. And so now, upon request, I have rebuilt the same house to the same dimensions (24″ square when closed, 17″ high ceilings), this time adding some cedar shake shingles to the roof. The interior decorating is being left to the kids to sort out. This time I hope they keep it for their own children’s children. The exterior colour is a lavender purple, despite appearing more blue in the photos. The folding feature is great if you have pets that like to steal or chew the doll furniture when no one is looking!
