The Balaclava was the original stool of the Meaford Collection. A contemporary version of the classic Windsor stool, it was christened the Balaclava because rumour has it that, during prohibition, Balaclava, Sydenham (now part of Meaford) was a moonshining hotbed; the wide seat, flared legs, and generous-sized foot rest wood have provided all the necessary qualities for keeping an imbiber upright and stable. It is a relatively recent innovation but retains the classic comfort and lines of the more traditional Windsor chairs.
While the flared legs provide greater stability than conventional stool designs, the highly sculpted pine seat and broad front foot rest will make you forget that you are sitting on a stool. While this distressed white example is 27″ high, seat and foot rest heights are a function of the surface the stool is used at. Seats are typically 12″ below counter height while foot rests are 16 1/2″ below the seat. A variety of finishes are available.
