As cremation becomes a more popular end of life choice in Canada, I was asked to create a cremation box that captured the loved one’s personality.
Made from solid walnut, I carved a favourite memory of the person’s childhood into the lid. A lover of speed and all things with wheels, it depicts him as a young box careening down the street in a high wind, clinging onto a shopping cart equipped with a bed sheet sail and pirate flag.
While there are many cremation boxes on the market, and while some allow you to have complex designs and long phrases computer engraved onto them, there is something special about a cremation box that is made quietly by hand, with extensive thought and care.
Cremation boxes can be made of virtually any wood and a choice of finishes. Screws can be on the top, as in this example, or hidden at the bottom, useful if the box is to be on display.
Prices start at $295.00, plus carving.
