This version takes the Bognor arm chair, bumps up the back to 44″, and adds a more conventional crest, imparting a more formal appearance. This particular example has a slightly oversized seat (3 inches deeper and 1 inch wider than the standard), perfect for taller or larger people, or for someone just looking for that Big Comfy Chair effect.
Like all my Windsor-style chairs, this is finished in your choice of milk paint, basic or two-toned distressed (+100), and sealed with tung oil. The chair pictured here first received a deep bronze base coat that was then topped with a black wash that had been tinted with a little brown. It was then lightly distressed, revealing the subtle underlying red and brown hues. As this chair wears with use more of the base coat will emerge.
Why call it the Bognor? Well, just as the former village of Sydenham had to rename itself “Bognor” to avoid being confused with the better known Sydenham near Kingston, this chair is different enough from the Sack Back to warrant its own name.
Dimensions (will vary slightly depending if the seat is oversized or standard):
Seat Height – 18”
Weight – c. 6.4 kg
