I just finished installing about 220 linear feet of continuous handrail in the Meaford Hall and Cultural Centre, over four pairs of stairs. It is not something I
normally do but it seems that the “handrail guys” don’t do this kind of job any more. No easements. No volutes (curly bits at the end), just mitred cuts, in and out, cheap as you can. So they called me.
Unable to source volutes (“Why do you want volutes? They are old fashioned”, I was told), I was forced to carve my own, which as not a big deal because carving is something I can do but rarely get the chance nowadays. It is quite likely that I may never do this sort of job again, but who knows.
